“Demand Side Management” – Demand Response, and Energy Efficiency

Thumbnail 1 - Demand Side ManagementThe high-level descriptor, “Demand Side Management”, is a term given to a broad range of activities related to a variety of changes that can occur to energy consumption patterns.

In broad terms, these changes are either:

1)  Permanent reductions, including those the result of energy efficiency investments or activities undertaken (to the effect of producing more output per unit of energy input); or

2)  Temporary reductions – for instance, at times of tight supply/demand balance, or high prices, or at times of high network loading.  This broad category of changes is termed “Demand Response”.
