SA Power Networks have begun the proposal period as they attempt to address a projected distribution limitation on Kangaroo Island, 112km south west of Adelaide. An existing radial 33kV submarine cable supplies the island and is nearing it’s designed life expectancy of 30 years. Significant consequences will occur if the cable fails, and a catastrophic cable failure will incur substantial repair costs and could potentially run limited generation over a long period of time which will have negative impacts on tourism, business, community and the economic development on the island.
SA Power Networks have released a NON-Network Options Report (NNOR) information package which includes documents relating to the submarine cable, Kangaroo Island load profile data, presentation slides from the NNOR information session and a NNOR request for information register.
These documents are available on the SA Power Networks website:
Proposal submissions will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, 15th July 2016. Enquires should be directed to requestforproposals@sapowernetworks.com.au or sent via post to the address below:
