TransGrid today announced that work has commenced at their Western Sydney facility at Eastern Creek on a hybrid energy system known as iDemand. The iDemand initiative was designed and implemented as part of TransGrid’s DM Innovation Allowance for 2009 to 2014. The project involves the installation of solar panels (on top of the site car park) that will harness energy for immediate usage on site, while batteries will store energy during off-peak periods at night and discharge energy to the site during the day. In addition, new energy efficient LED lights will also be implemented in the system and it is expected that total peak demand at the site will be reduced by up to 50% as a result of this project.
